Trevor Noah has been tapped to host the 2022 GRAMMY Awards for the second consecutive time.

In an interview with Gayle King, the Daily Show host shared his excitement to return to the Staples Center, which will soon be renamed to the Crypto.com Arena. “It was fun, it was really, really fun. It was a great team. I was just lucky to be a part of it. We had such a good time, imagine if we had people there, how much more fun we would have had,” he said of the 2021 event. “This year, the Grammys are going to be back. Hopefully it’s gonna be the full show. Everybody is gonna be there. We’re excited to celebrate a record night and I’m gonna host.”

Noah, who is actually a GRAMMY nominee, also touched on whether or not he hesitated to return, stating:

“I said, ‘Let me think about it,’ and then I was like, ‘Why would I not want to do the GRAMMYs?’ First of all, it’s a front row ticket to the best music concert of all time. I don’t care who you are, you love music. And then I realized how important it is for me on the night. As the host, I serve so many purposes. If I’m not there, who lifts Kevin Hart into his seat? There are important things I’m supposed to be doing on that night. I give JAY-Z emotional support; he’s very nervous. I just tell him, ‘It’s gonna be ok, JAY. You’re breaking a record, you’re beating Quincy Jones in nominations.’ I’m there to give people moral support.”

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, also opened up about having Noah come back. “Trevor was amazing as our host for the 63rd Grammy Awards with praise from the music community, music fans and critics,” he said. “We’re so excited to welcome Trevor back to the Grammys stage and feel fortunate to once again have him hosting what we believe will be an unforgettable evening.”

“It was fun, it was really, really fun. It was a great team. I was just lucky to be a part of it. We had such a good time, imagine if we had people there, how much more fun we would have had,” Noah said of the socially distanced Grammy Awards in 2021. “This year, the Grammys are going to be back. Hopefully it’s gonna be the full show. Everybody is gonna be there. We’re excited to celebrate a record night and I’m gonna host.”

The 2022 GRAMMY Awards is set to take place on January 31.

Elsewhere in music, Drake and Bad Bunny are Spotify’s most-streamed artists of 2021.
