NFL Suspends Three Players for Violating COVID-19 Protocols
Two of which are on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The NFL has officially suspended three players for violating the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Two of the players, Antonio Brown and Mike Edwards, are teammates of Tom Brady’s on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while the third is free agent John Franklin III. All three players will be ineligible to play for the next three matches.
The players have allegedly misrepresented their vaccination statuses and thus, violated the protocols. In a joint statement, the NFL and the NFLPA said, “The health and safety of players and personnel is our top priority. The protocols were jointly developed working with our respective experts to ensure that we are practicing and playing football as safely as possible during the ongoing pandemic. The NFL-NFLPA jointly reinforce their commitment and further emphasize the importance of strict adherence to the protocols to protect the well-being of everyone associated with the NFL.”
John Franklin III, who has not yet been signed to a club, will be ineligible to play should be signed to one. The suspension is effective immediately for all three players. It remains to be seen how the Buccaneers will fair without Brown and Edwards in the next three games.
