After making its debut in May of this year, adidas’ 4DFWD silhouette has since been given a handful of vibrant makeovers. From its “Core Black/Solar Red” unveiling, a vibrant “Signal Green” arrangement in August and, most recently a pair with striking iridescent stripes, the innovative sneaker is certainly making its mark.

Now, for its final update of 2021, the 4DFWD returns in a “Legacy Indigo/Silver Metallic” combination, complete with solid black 4D cushioning and a breathable Primeknit+ upper.

Designed to absorb impact, support gait and, essentially, make running easier, the sneaker’s innovative 4D midsole steals the show. Boasting a unique bowtie-lattice pattern (which is one of a possible five million structures available for this form), the midsole comes together to redirect the energy of every footstrike into forward motion.

Speaking to HYPEBEAST earlier this year, Sam Handy, adidas Running Vice President Design said: “4D technology provides us with the opportunity to design in a way that conventional foam midsoles do not allow. We took inspiration from the first-generation 4D lattice midsole and set ourselves the challenge to take it to the next level, coding millions of potential lattice structures to see if we could specifically design to counter negative mechanical forces experienced during running.”

The adidas 4DFWD “Legacy Indigo/Silver Metallic” is available to buy now from the brand’s online webstore, retailing at £170 (approximately $230 USD).
