Following the untimely death of Virgil Abloh.
According to reports, just hours after an official announcement that Virgil Abloh had lost his private two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare aggressive form of cancer, resale prices for the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Chicago” skyrocketed. Reports note that the highly-anticipated collaboration, originally released back in 2017 for just $190 USD, started being resold for as low as $5,300 to $10,000 USD.
The Off-White™ x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Chicago,” stands as the start of Virgil Abloh’s long-standing partnership with Nike/Jordan Brand. The seminal release that introduced “The 10” not only celebrated the iconic “Chicago” colorway, but also established design elements now synonymous with Virgil Abloh’s footwear designs for Nike/Jordan Brand. The distinct elements found on follow-up collaborations include the industrial markings, deconstructed construction, “SHOELEACES” marked laces, “AIR” emblazoned midsoles and zip-tie accompaniments.
