IWC Drops Ceramic Big Pilot's Perpetual Calendar With Racing Green Dial
The watch brings together two of the brand’s specialities.

IWC has dropped a new limited edition black ceramic perpetual calendar with a vivid racing green dial.
As well as adding to the swathe of green dials that have dominated 2021, the watch brings together a number of milestones in IWC’s recent history, including the brand’s development of ceramic cases in the 1980s and its advancement of perpetual calendars through watchmaker Kurt Klaus’ work in the same decade.
The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition Racing Green uses a 46mm black zirconium oxide ceramic case, while its conical crown and caseback ring are made from IWC’s proprietary amalgamation of titanium and ceramic, Ceratanium.
Rather than being formed and “sintered” directly into components from powders, Ceratanium is first formed into bars and then machined and hand-finished as a regular metal component would be, before a final firing brings about the matte ceramic appearance of the material.
The sunray-brushed “racing green” dial is made all the more vivid through the use of polished and brushed gold-plated highlights on the hands and moonphase display.
While the perpetual calendar requires no adjustment until the year 2100, an additional “century slide” included with watch that can be fitted by a watchmaker mean the watch can continue to function – theoretically at least – until the year 2499.
Limited to 250 pieces, the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition Racing Green is secured on a black calfskin leather strap with pin buckle and is available now via IWC, priced $37,000 USD.
