Watches and Wonders Sees Massive Post-Baselworld Influx of Brands
Organizers confirm the 38-brand digital show will be followed by physical event in Shanghai.

Watches and Wonders will proceed with a ‘phygital’ strategy for 2021 starting with a digital-only event followed by a physical show in Shanghai days later.
The watch trade show previously known as SIHH, took place in Geneva in January for press, retailers and VIP customers in recent years focusing on the luxury end of the watch market and was made up of predominantly Richemont-owned brands along with a selection of invited high-end independent brands.
It was one of the two biggest events in the watch industry’s calendar, the other being the bigger, 100+ year-old Baselworld. But as Baselworld’s reputation crumbled (with high prices and complacency on the part of the organizers often cited as the reason behind its demise) SIHH saw a swell in the number of brands wanting to exhibit, which in turn put pressure on its staging as the more boutique of the two shows.
Watch brands finally rounded on Baselworld organisers early last year, inflicting the coup de grâce by pulling out en masse and forcing organisers to retire the Baselworld concept for good.
Now with no Baselworld to offer a competing platform this year, Watches and Wonders will host more brands than ever before when it launches digitally on April 7, 38 in total, which is more than double the number it once worked with.
As well as Richemont mainstays A. Lange & Sohne, Baume et Mercier, Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Vacheron Constantin it has also attracted the support of LVMH’s watch brands Hublot, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, TAG Heuer and Zenith. Most tellingly it has also managed to convince Rolex, Tudor and Patek Philippe (the final Baselworld brands to withdraw their support) to participate.
The other brands taking part in the digital launch, which runs until April 13, are Arnold & Son, Carl F. Bucherer, Chanel, Chopard, Chronoswiss, Corum, Ferdinand Berthoud, Greubel Forsey, H. Moser & Cie, Hermès, Louis Moinet, Maurice Lacroix, Nomos, Oris, Purnell, Rebellion Timepieces, Ressence, Speake-Marin, Trilobe and Ulysse Nardin.
Then, days later 15 of these brands will take part in an invitation-only physical event at Shanghai’s West Bund Art Centre, where organisers, Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH), demonstrated a socially distanced inaugural event in September 2020. The event will include workbench demonstrations, talks and interactive experiences. FHH are also assessing whether more shows will be possible in 2021.
