Junya Watanabe MAN Updates Tradition With Collaborative FW21 Collection
Working with everyone from footwear label Stepney Workers Club to U.K. rapper Loyle Carner.
Junya Watanabe MAN has presented its Fall/Winter 2021 collection, focusing on updates to traditional menswear styles through a diverse range of collaborations. Throughout the collection, Watanabe’s outerwear stands out with subtle updates including military-style liner jackets combined with traditional knitwear or parkas produced from a range of materials. In true Watanabe style, the collection featured a range of unexpected collaborations.
Collaborators in this collection include brands Watanabe has worked with on numerous occasions — such as Carhartt and Levi’s — as well as new partners including London-based footwear label Stepney Workers Club. The collaborative slip-on shoes feature Stepney Workers Club’s handshake logo on the tongue, as well as “JWCdGMAN” printed on the outsole.
For FW21, Watanabe has also enlisted the help of various musicians. The most prominent is Loyle Carner, with lyrics taken from his album Not Waving, But Drowning appearing across items and embroidered onto Mühlbauer hats. Elsewhere, album artwork from Emapea, Koralle, Stan Forebee, Saib and Yeyts is also used as prints.
