Experimental Form Meets Furry Hats in Fumito Ganryu FW21
Garments transform for versatile wear.
Fumito Ganryu‘s return to fashion has been marked by a kind of quiet resilience, as the former COMME des GARÇONS creative’s eponymous label delves into experimental textiles and effortless shapes that the designer himself prefers to wear. Fall/Winter 2021 is further inspired by the concept of ingenious apparel design, yielding technical transforming garments.
Jackets feature removable collars that can be traded between each other, encouraging personalization, with cuts that encourage dynamic layering. Recycled plastics inform the oversized puffer coats layered atop, while the sweaters and hybrid shirts below feature billowing sleeves and pockets deep enough to store any daily essential. Toying with different silhouettes, Ganryu balances knit cardigans and his favored coaches jacket with pooling sweatpants, slim denim jeans and cavernous slacks, styled atop tall Suicoke runners and another iteration of the duo’s collaborative boot.
Other Japanese designers presenting Fall/Winter 2021 collections include Yohji Yamamoto, JIEDA, KIDILL and Homme Plissé Issey Miyake.
