Digawel‘s function-focused garments are better suited than most brands’ at coping with the effects of ongoing quarantines and long periods of lockdown. The Japanese brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection is designed specifically with isolation in mind, proffering easygoing shapes and styles equally suited for stay-home desk jockeys and brave souls venturing outside.

Bolstered by collaborative PORTER bags, Liberty-textile shirting, Tyvek outerwear (a cheeky nod to antiviral hazmat suits) and preppy CRST items (a collaboration between Digawel and J. Press), the SS21 collection lives up to its moniker of “Domestic Landscape.” Digawel founder Kohei Nishimura envisioned this collection being worn at home, during housework and while making brief trips to the store or park. Indeed, one of the mental images that inspired Nishimura was that of a person tossing on a shirt-like coat atop pajamas to take out the trash or pick up their newspaper.

Thus, plenty of shirt-like layers are on hand, including Digawel’s signature cut and various types of tunic, pullover and sleeveless items for weather-appropriate effortlessness. Painterly geometric patterns, workwear-inspired contrast stitches and graphic prints enliven a variety of long tees and adjustable sweaters, although there are plenty of neutral-toned goods ideal for video call dress-up or even just feeling slightly more put together.

A similar sense of cozy daily wearables was imagined elsewhere in Japan by former Issey Miyake designer Yusuke Takahashi’s CFCL.
