Emerging outdoor brand Flower Mountain isn’t afraid to embrace color, unlike so many technically-driven adventure imprints. Indeed, Flower Mountain’s zeal for rich visual appeal is made clear in its seasonal collaboration with legendary Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck.

Free of controversy for the moment, Van Beirendonck has partnered with the Japanese brand for a colorful selection of functional apparel and matching footwear. Flower Mountain founders Keisuke Ota and Yang Chao enlisted Van Beirendonck to hybridize traditional Japanese patterns with Van Beirendonck’s inimitable approach to graphic design, yielding high-contrast patterns and prints rich with texture.

Oversized jersey shirts, cozy sweatpants and runner-friendly leggings are realized with floral accents inspired by Okinawa’s historic bingata technique, while a check pattern is indebted to ichimatsu-emblazoned kimono, playfully exaggerated by Van Beirendonck. Three-dimensional tags feature “FloWer Mountain” co-branding to match the shirts, while a selection of Flower Mountain’s signature running sneakers feature patterns to match the garments — one iteration is even offered in an asymmetric pattern to match the collection’s trousers.
