Virón's Plant-Based and Recycled Footwear Is the Future of Sustainable Sneakers
Produced from recycled materials along with corn and apple-based leathers.
Focusing on sustainable, vegan and plant-based materials, Virón is looking to create footwear in a new way. The emerging label was founded this year by Julian Romer and Mats Rombaut — who is also behind the footwear label Rombaut — the Paris-based brand has pioneered new materials and products for its first release.
Whereas a number of vegan footwear and fashion brands use PVC and other plastic-based materials, Virón mixes innovative plant-based textiles — from apple or corn waste — with recycled materials including army tents, canvas polyester and rubber. All of the materials chosen by the brand are PETA certified vegan. Additionally, the sole units are made from 70% post consumer waste rubber, while old pairs can be sent back so that the soles can be recycled into new pairs.

The first drop from the brand includes the high-top boot, in black faux-leather or military green canvas, and the low-top sneaker, which arrives in a string of color options including the eye-catching ’60s-inspired purple and green camouflage. All silhouettes from the brand range in price from $190 USD to $280 USD, referencing the founder’s intention to create more affordable sustainable products.
