Land Rover's Explore R Is a Smartphone Designed for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Good in water, sand, and can survive multiple drops.
Building upon “the toughest phone in the world,” Land Rover has now released an updated version of its Explore smartphone, cleverly named the Explore R.
Inspired by the automaker’s robust Defender off-roader, the phone puts durability and functionality at its forefront, repeatedly drop-tested at 1.8-meter heights and equipped with a 3,100mAh battery to provide long-lasting battery life that can last up to 1.5 days even when supporting medium-to-heavy usage. With IP68 and MIL SPEC 810H protection, the device is also fully waterproof at up to 1.5-meter depths for 35 minutes while being completely dust and sand proof.
On top of just durability, it also features a bright 5.7-inch HD+ 18×9 display that’s been optimized for the great outdoors by offering better visibility and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6, and can be used while you’re wearing gloves or even if your fingers are wet. The device itself runs on Android, with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card. There’s also a 12-megapixel Sony dual pixel camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel one on the front.
For the adventurers out there, the Land Rover Explore R is now available on the company’s website for £399 GBP, or roughly $534 USD.
Elsewhere in the world of tech, Apple is reportedly releasing two new Apple Watches and a new iPad Air.
