Netflix's 'Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj' Won't Return for Seventh Season
The political comedy commentary show comes to an end after 39 episodes.
Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj has been a huge hit for the online streaming service Netflix, yet after six seasons news has broken that the political comedy show will not return.
Speaking to his audience on Twitter, Minhaj wrote, “What a run. @patriotact has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My two babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy.”
The show ran for six seasons comprising 39 episodes, which often covered sensitive topics and political news with a comedic, yet crucially analytical, angle. In January 2019, Netflix was asked by Saudi Arabian regulators to pull a specific episode that reportedly offended the country, while in June this year, Minhaj developed a digital exclusive in which he addressed Black Lives Matter and why the silence from people of color regarding this issue is detrimental.
However, Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj has also covered topics ranging from Supreme to the price of attending college and political elections. Since it launched in October 18, the show has been awarded an Emmy and a Peabody. The show’s catalog of episodes will be available to stream on Netflix, however, there will be no new episodes from here on.
In other news, a Clueless TV series reboot is reportedly in the works.
