Father Returns With New 'The Thingz I Do 4 Money' EP
Ahead of his upcoming ‘Come Outside, We Not Gone Jump You’ project.
As founder of Awful Records, Atlanta rapper and producer Father has been championing his original form of hip-hop ever since he burst onto the scene with 2014’s Young Hot Ebony. It’s been six years since “Look At Wrist” took the internet by storm. Over a half-decade later, Father is a bonafide veteran and still crafting his singular sound. Late last week he returned with his latest EP The Thingz I Do 4 Money, a short yet undeniably sweet 5-track, 13-minute offering.
Each of the songs are somewhat tied to the seven cardinal sins: “Splurge”; “Relaxxx/Yes Sir!”; “Hitman”; “Blow”; “Glutton” all manage to weave a story of struggling with different forms of lust, greed, pride, envy, wrath, sloth and well, there’s an entire song that rounds out the project called “Glutton.” Father’s production continues to bring in elements from electronic and trap, and his vocals are refined as ever. “Dropping music will always make me very nervous cuz what if y’all hate it?” Father tweeted before launching the new project. “Like wat i’m gone do? my mind instantly go to sellin water off the highway exit.” We assure you, Father will never have to sell waters for a dollar to vehicles waiting for their next turn.
Earlier this year, Father teamed up with longtime collaborator Archibald Slim for “Til’ i Wake Up” and dropped some solid loosies like the soft-spoken yet hard-hitting “Lynch Mob”, “Awesome Jawsome” featuring Zack Fox channeling his inner John Lennon and “Evisu Fiend”. The Thingz I Do 4 Money follows his HU$BAND EP from last October.
