Ahead of the premiere of the film, A24 has revealed a Dungeons & Dragons-type tabletop game inspired by its upcoming medieval film The Green Knight. This original tabletop RPG will introduce fans to the world of The Green Knight, utilizing “collaborative improvisational” storytelling made popular by D&D.
The dark fantasy world A24 presents features supernatural occurrences based on occult folklore that become more real the farther people stray from the castle. Players are tasked to quest to the Green Chapel to take on the Green Knight, “trudging through gnarled branches, dark foreign shadows, and a cold wind.”
Players can choose from five roles to play as, which include Knight, Noble, Hunter, Sorcerer, and Bard, before facing a series of trials that test your honor. To complete tasks, characters can confront situations with brawn, melee, and ranged combat, or resort to mysticism or stealth.
The Green Knight, directed by David Lowery, is a retelling of a 700-year-old Arthurian legend called Gawain and the Green Knight. The trailer below showcases Gawain in search of a way toward a path of glory. Encouraged by the king (Sean Harris) and queen (Kate Dickie), he wanders off in search of the fabled Green Knight along the countryside. However, the trail toward the knight is bleak and filled with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers.
The Green Knight: A Fantasy Role-Playing Game comes with the Game Master’s guide, a map of the realm, 5 character sheets, and a 20-sided die. Pre-order the tabletop game today.
