New Balance Commemorates Tokyo Concept Shop's Opening With $630 USD 1300 Sneaker
The first-ever made-in-Japan 1300 is crafted of extremely elevated materials.

New Balance is celebrating the opening of its T-HOUSE concept shop in Tokyo with the release of an exclusive made-in-Japan 1300. The first-ever iteration of the popular runner to be crafted in Japan, these 1300s are built from extremely elevated materials, packaged with unique accouterments, and will cost more than twice as much as the standard 1300JP‘s already-handsome $300 USD price tag.
First released in 1985, the 1300 was known as the “sports car for your feet” by its legions of ardent fans, and here it earns that premium moniker in full with an intricate construction. Uppers are made of luxurious Japanese steerhide from leading leather manufacturer Sanyo, Co and durable nylon, all stitched together by artisan shoemakers. Liners and insoles are made from the same luxurious leathers, with each piece true to the original grey and blue color scheme. Heel clips hold the upper in place, with New Balance hits on tongues and quarters alike providing branded flair. Down below, a white EVA foam midsole supplies cushioning and an all black Vibram outsole completes the look.
The T-HOUSE itself fuses contemporary and classic architecture, using a 122-year-old warehouse in a fresh fashion. Product will be focused on New Balance’s global collaborations and Tokyo Design Studio offerings, both of which will stand alongside a line of original product that’s exclusive to the shop. Taking things a step further, the Tokyo Design Studio itself will be headquartered in a section of the building.
Look for the made-in-Japan New Balance 1300 to release on the New Balance Japan webstore come July 17 — the same day that the T-HOUSE opens for business — complete with a kingly retail price of ¥68,000 JPY (approximately $631 USD).
