HAIM has finally dropped off their third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III. Originally slated for an April 2020 release, the sister trio — Danielle, Este and Alana — opted for its postponement due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The followup to 2017’s Something to Tell You, their newest full-length was produced by Danielle, former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij and revered producer Ariel Rechtshaid. Women in Music Pt. III is the trio’s most ambitious and dynamic album up to date, trading in the soft/pop-rock structures of its predecessors for a set of exemplary blues, country, funk and even jazz-tinged creations. The expansion of HAIM’s musicality also covers the project’s lyricism as they stitch together bolder imagery, nudged forward by cheeky lines on tracks like “Man From The Magazine,” painfully honest verses about depression on “I’ve Been Down” and the back-and-forth of leaving their hometown in opener “Los Angeles.”
