Parisian label AVNIER has continued its ongoing Salomon collaboration, with the two brands releasing a S-Lab XT 5 Softground for Spring/Summer 2020. The “Mirage Effect” sneaker takes inspiration from the Marathon des Sables, a 160 mile race through the Sahara desert that is often described as the toughest footrace in the world.
The sneaker’s color palette is a reference to the tones seen by runners through the desert, including elements of “Sand,” “Ivory” and “Stone.” Offsetting this color selection are hits of “Electric Blue” and “Laser Foil” as a nod to a mirage of water in the desert.
As is expected from a Salomon release, the collabortion features a number of techincal elements. The sneaker is constructed from perforated mesh and ripstop nylon with bonded graphics. Other features include the Quicklace lacing system, a Contagrip Chevron outsole and SensiFit construction.
Speaking about the launch, AVNIER creative director Sébastian Strappazzon, explained that the brand aimed to “explore the paradox between freedom and restraint, relaxed and controlled, dualities that one may find through the desolated landscapes of the Sahara where a sense of endless freedom contrasts with the restraining conditions of the desert.”
The AVNIER x Salomon S-Lab XT 5 Softground “Mirage Effect” will release via the AVNIER web store on June 17.
