Instagram Launches New Wellness "Guides"
Hoping to offer support for those struggling during the coronavirus crisis.

Instagram has announced a new function that allows users to discover recommendations, tips and other content from a range of creators and organizations on the platform. Named “Guides,” the new feature will launch by focusing on wellness content, as Instagram aims to offer support for people struggling during the current coronavirus pandemic.
Participaitng creators are producing advice on looking after your well-being, mainting connection with others and coping with anxiety or grief. Once uploaded, these guides will be accessible through a new icon on each participant’s profile, and will also be launching on the “Explore” page in the near future.
Announcing the launch, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri explained that “Guides” had originally been planned for travel uses, “but we pivoted them to focus on wellness because of the pandemic.” The new function also shows the platform’s latest attempt to take on long-form content, with “Guides” being similar to content that would otherwise be found on more-traditional media sites.
In other tech news, Instagram parent company Facebook recently purchased GIPHY.
Starting today, you can check out Guides – a new way to discover recommendations on Instagram.
