Azekel Shares Woozy New Single "Thrills"
The Prince co-signed Massive Attack and Gorillaz collaborator returns.
It’s not often a total artistic package like Azekel pops up. The Nigeria-born, England-based musician has continued to carve out a gripping take on progressive R&B, landing a co-sign from late legend Prince, as well as collaborations alongside trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack and Damon Albarn’s virtual band Gorillaz. After delivering his recent single “Crescent Moons” last month, Azekel has now shared a brand new single alongside Oyinda titled “Thrills.”
Delivering rich melancholic hues, “Thrills” continues to showcase his adaptive sound. Over a deep, woozy backdrop, the London musician croons with an ethereal presence. “I trust your voice in the dark/Not for some thrills/But so I could feel/I let it go in a blessing, I/Not for some thrills/But so I could feel,” he sings.
“Thrills” is the second single off of Azekel’s forthcoming project, Azekel Unreleased, which he says is a diversion from his 2018 album Our Father. “It’s definitely a darker sound, more freeform,” he notes. “I was inspired by previous collaborators Massive Attack a lot, and the merging of genres.”
While we wait for that project, listen to “Thrills” below.
