Spanish Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Platform' Comes to Netflix
A dystopian tale set in a futuristic prison.
After premiering at 2019’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and securing a worldwide streaming deal with Netflix, Spanish-language sci-fi thriller The Platform has recieved its first Netflix trailer.
Set in a dystopian tower-style prison, The Platform‘s plot is centered around the prison’s inmates — specifically, the manner in which they’re fed. A platform burdened down with an opulent feast gradually descends from the top to the bottom levels of the tower, enabling the individuals housed at the top to take more than their fair share and leave mere scraps for the people housed below them. However, one good-hearted innmate takes umbrage with this unjust system and sets out to change it.
A clever commentary on class warfare in the vein of popular pictures like Parasite and Us, The Platform stars Iván Massagué, Zorion Eguileor and Antonia San Juan. It’s directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. See the trailer above and Netflix’s official synopsis below, and expect an arrival on the streaming service March 20.
In a prison where inmates on high floors eat better than those below, who get the scant scraps, one man tries to effect change so everyone gets enough.
Elsewhere in the world of entertainment, Ben Affleck explained why he quit his role as Batman in a recent interview.
