Burna Boy Returns Home Victorious With New Music Video for "Odogwu"
His first single since last year’s GRAMMY Nomination.
Burna Boy kicked off 2020 by releasing “Odogwu” following his GRAMMY-nominated African Giant project that catapulted the Nigerian born singer-songwriter to international stardom. Now he releases his latest single’s music video, showcasing his transformation into a king with the help of director TG Omari.
“Odogwu” in Igbo translates loosely to a title given to a victorious, heroic leader, and is fitting here as Burna Boy is outfitted with a crown in the opening sequence. He ventures through towns in his homeland as they celebrate him as Nigeria’s “Victor.” The track features production from Kel-P while subtle autotune amplifies Burna’s effortless flow throughout.
Yoo! Who can breakdown the meaning of ODOGWU for all my non Nigerian Giants!? 🦍

“African music. Music started with drums, to announce childbirth, the coming of the king, trouble in the land or something. That’s where the music started, that soul is always going to be there. So whether you understand it or not, it’s here to speak to you,” Burna Boy told HYPEBEAST in last fall’s “Burna Boy Can Guide You Home” feature.
