Browns Partners With Kai-Isaiah Jamal for World Poetry Day
With a short film featuring two poems, ‘S is for Skin’ and ’G is for Grip.’
London-based retailer Browns has released a new short film to mark World Poetry Day, partnering with Kai-Isaiah Jamal and filmmaker Emily McDonald. The project is a series of two poems from Jamal, S is for Skin and G is for Grip, both of which explore themes of freedom, empowerment and vulnerability.
Speaking about the project, Jamal added, “It takes so long to come home to your body for some of us. The moments of euphoric, uncensored and joyous liberation are parts of our narrative that are rarely displayed. The emancipation of forgetting or intentionally resisting anatomical conventions and oppressive conditions aid us in finding ways to celebrate out bodies, in our moments of glory.”
The short film, titled Somewhere, We Dance Forever, is the latest community-focused project from Browns, celebrating the designers, creatives and contributors who work with the retailer. You can take a look at the video in the gallery above. Jamal wears all Spring/Summer 2020 pieces from labels including Dior, Balenciaga and Jil Sander, all of which are available from Browns now.
In other fashion news, Browns recently released an ombré-dyed windbreaker and track pants set from Aries.
