ASICS‘ lauded family of performance running shoes has gained a new member: the Novablast. A high-speed piece of athletic footwear with a striking design and a soft cushioning system inspired by a trampoline, the Novablast was crafted to offer an energetic ride that helps runners find their rhythm.
This high-octane ethos is enabled by the Novablast’s special midsole, which uses a full-foot Flytefoam cushioning system in place of ASICS’ signature GEL setup for a lightweight-yet-springy feel. The upper is constructed of a soft mesh that offers enhanced airflow for breathability, but it’s plenty sturdy as well —- there are no stitched or welded overlays added on. Finally, ASICS’ signature AHARPLUS rubber provides long-lasting traction.
From a visual standpoint, there are three main options: “Black/Graphite Grey,” “Tuna Blue/Black” and “Sheet Rock/Black.” “Black/Graphic Grey” takes on a stark black upper, but embellishes it with bold neon trim and accents. “Tuna Blue/Black” uses bright oceanic blue hues, accented with touches of hot red. Last but not least, “Sheet Rock/Black” keeps things subtle with a dark grey base and black Tiger stripes, but adds a little flair with pops of neon yellow. All three are completed by a white midsole and outsole that matches its upper’s accent color. Other styles for men and women will arrive in the coming weeks as well
“The new FLYTEFOAM Blast midsole has been designed for more than just supporting a runner during their run; it has been designed for play and enjoyment,” says Junichiro Tateishi, General Manager of the Footwear Function Research Department at ASICS’ Institute of Sport Science.
Moving from performance to classics, Australia’s Above The Clouds is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a collaborative GEL-1090.
