Teyana Taylor Taps Lauryn Hill for "We Got Love" Video Outro
The Kanye West-produced track features Pan-African vibes throughout.
Teyana Taylor debuted her first single since getting intimate with Kehlani for “Morning” with the Kanye West-produced “We Got Love”. Now she returns with a new visual for the single, enlisting Lauryn Hill for an inspirational outro about finding purpose through genuine love.
“We Got Love” features Pan-African tribal wardrobes in the Spike Tey Joint with some ’90s graphics behind some intricate choreographed set pieces. Toward the end of the video, Lauryn Hill takes over while emotional and candid shots of Teyana’s family are showcased in raw iPhone footage.
“Above all, you keep your clarity, you keep your focus. You keep your sense of love, and you keep your sense of purpose,” Ms. Lauryn Hill says during the ending minutes of the song as an orchestra’s strings session plays in the background. “Those are integral. You know, they’re key. Happiness, you know? A lot of people define success differently. For me you could everything, you could have all the money in the world, but if it’s not enjoyable, if it’s not sustainable, if you can’t be a person of integrity while having all these things, what does it matter? What does it mean? The value is internal. Your value is internal.”
Earlier this year, Teyana appeared on Elton John’s Beats 1 radio show to confirm that the album would arrive before 2020, although those plans have since changed. “Not a might, it’s definitely gonna come out this year. I’m gonna do whatever I have to do to make sure it gets out.” She revealed that Kanye would not be producing the project. “This one is a little bit of everybody. I want to kind of explore a little bit more, get a couple more people involved, to really, really bring to life my vision.”
