Grimes Drops New 'Miss Anthropocene' Cut "Delete Forever"
Written on the night of Lil Peep’s death.
Grimes has shared a new single off her highly-anticipated album Miss_Anthropocene entitled “Delete Forever.” The four-minute, guitar and drum-dependent track focuses on the opioid epidemic and channels “this sort of like ‘Wonderwall’ kind of vibe” after the mother-to-be aimed for a Patsy Cline or country sound.
Speaking to Zane Lowe, Grimes revealed that the song was written on the night of Lil Peep‘s death in 2017. “I mean, the song is pretty, it’s a pretty bummer song…I guess it’s kind of about the opioid epidemic and that kinda thing ’cause uh, I’ve had like, quite a few friends actually like, passed away,” she said. “In particular, one friend when I was like, 18 passed away from complications related to opioid addiction. It’s just like, you know, artists keep dying and stuff so, I wrote this song on the night Lil Peep died or whatever ’cause I just got super, super triggered by that.”
