ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 KZN "Box of Chocolates" Is the Perfect Valentine's Gift
Flowers and cards, eat your heart out.

While Forrest Gump‘s sanguine statement took him all the way to a 1995 Academy Award for Best Picture, it’s incorrect when it comes to ASICS‘ new GEL-Kayano 5 KZN “Box of Chocolates.” Inspired by the elegant packaging that holds Valentine’s Day sweets, this hybrid silhouette lets you know exactly what you’ll be receiving with its intricate detailing and quality materials.
ASICS’ classic GEL-Kayano 5 provides the upper’s layered style, while the midsole tooling arrives courtesy of the modern-day GEL-Quantum 90. Much like a thoughtful gift, the attention to detail is evident on every inch of the design. The top half uses a synthetic base with overlays split between soft white crushed velvet and shaggy tan suede. Shades of gold are present on the sockliner, midfoot branding and various graphic hits for a little high-end flair. There’s even a small touch of corduroy towards the forefoot.
Down below, the aforementioned GEL-Quantum 90 midsole — a takedown of the full-foot GEL unit on the GEL-Quantum 360 — uses sharply shaped foam and visible GEL cushioning to provide style and substance in equal measures. Bone white outsoles complete the look.
The ASICS GEL-Kayano V KZN “Box of Chocolates” is available now at retailers like Sneaker Politics for $120 USD.
