Viewership for the anime category on Netflix doubled across many regions in the world for the year of 2020.

According to an end-of-year roundup posted by the streaming platform, the number of views for anime shows and films increased by 100 percent in the U.S. over the course of this year, with two titles particularly popular among viewers: Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Blood Of Zeus.

At the same time, Variety reported that anime viewership similarly doubled across many regions in Asia when compared to data from 2019. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution was also the most beloved title in Malaysia, Singapore and India, while Thailand watched Howl’s Moving Castle, the Philippines preferred Weathering with You, Hong Kong and Indonesia turned to A Whisker Away, and Taiwan’s favorite was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

The news comes following recent announcements at Netflix’s 2020 Anime Festival for five new projects in an effort to expand the fast-growing category. At the time, the streaming platform also reported that more than 100 million households watched an anime title in 2020, with a show or film from the genre reaching Top 10 across 100 different countries.

For more things entertainment, the Kardashians have signed a new deal with Disney and Hulu.
