Hyperfly Honors NBA Greats With Handcrafted Katakana-Lettered Hoodies
Executed in Japanese-dyed indigo black cotton.
Hyperfly‘s stylish jiu-jitsu gear has landed the Californian brand collaborations with brands like Champion and Jasper Wong’s POW! WOW!, but its latest partnership is arguably the company’s biggest to date. In partnership with the NBA, Hyperfly has realized a series of remixed basketball team gear saluting the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks.
First launched earlier this month, the handmade hoodies are the first of several collaborative drops to come. Each 20oz raw cotton garment has been treated with Japanese indigo black dye, yielding an especially deep tone that slightly differs on each piece. The printed imagery is similarly Eastern-influenced, featuring the logos of each team and branding done up in Japanese Katakana characters, playfully altering the shape of each teams’ recognizable motif. White sleeve prints complete the design.
Shop the first round of collaborative Katakana-emblazoned items on the NBA’s web store. Hyperfly and the NBA will continue their joint effort into 2021, encompassing more designs and silhouettes.
Meanwhile, New York’s other pro team, the Brooklyn Nets, recently introduced its Basquiat-inspired 2021-21 City Edition jerseys.
