Apple's New Firmware Allows for In-Field Recalibration for Its $6,000 USD Pro Display XDR

Apple has just released a new firmware update (4.2.30) for its stunning professional-grade Pro Display XDR monitor. The firmware update will give way to in-field recalibration for specific projects, allowing it to be tuned by third-party spectroradiometers: Photo Research SpectraScan PR-740, PR-745 or PR-788, and Colorimetry Research CR-300.

For those new to the Pro Display XDR, the monitor sits at 32 inches for wide-angle 6K Retina resolution. Some breakthroughs for this monitor include a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, over a billion colors presented, the individual calibration of 576 LEDs, a compensation polarizer for off-axis light leakage, 1600 nits of peak brightness, a 10-bit color depth, and P3 wide color gamut.

The solid display is constructed with a machined lattice pattern in aluminum which provides airflow and cooling when at peak brightness, and is fully adjustable (height, tilt, rotation) thanks to its innovative Pro Stand. This premium display comes with a hefty price tag of $5,000 USD — $5,999 USD if nano-texture glass — and will require an additional $1,000 USD if you are looking to include the Pro Stand. Head over to Apple to shop the new Pro Display XDR.

Those that currently own the monitor, and are looking to unlock its full potential, can download the color calibrator over at apple and can set it up by following these instructions.
