Toho Celebrates Godzilla Day With a Playful Series of Short Tales
The kaiju’s 66th birthday comes November 3.
Leading up to the Godzilla franchise’s 66th birthday on November 3, Toho International is working with The Nerdist to release a series of short clips bringing back some of the kaiju’s most classic moments. The series will consist of 20 episodes and uses footage from an array of Godzilla films over the years, reformatted into bite-sized episodes that Toho says “capture the fun and adventure” the monster is reputable for.
“Fans of Godzilla roar louder than any community I know, and we still want to make sure they are able to commemorate their favorite character in exciting new ways,” said Lora Cohn, managing director at Toho. “With more people online than ever, now is the perfect opportunity to treat fans to the hilarious Godzilla Tales series, while also filling the gap between our major theatrical release next year with Godzilla vs. Kong. We are thrilled with the seamless collaboration of our licensees to deliver even more meaningful experiences and products to fans.”
Aside from the upcoming series of shorts, Toho will also be celebrating Godzilla Day with a number of exciting collaborations, including a special skin of the kaiju in Mediatonic’s Fall Guys, a limited edition hand-pulled silkscreen serigraph print from the famed American artist Shag aka Josh Agle, and more collectibles and merch from Mondo.
For those interested, Godzilla Tales will drop weekly over on The Nerdist’s YouTube channel through till the end of the year.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Jordan Peele is set to produce a remake of Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs.
