Wade Through the Haters With Balenciaga's Excavator Rainboot
There must be something in the water, as these $850 USD boots are nearly sold out.
After just dropping a $5,800 USD scuba jacket, and now these Excavator Rainboots, you’d think Balenciaga is preparing for a weather storm.
But a weather storm, of sorts, is exactly what Demna Gvasalia tried to convey during his Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2020 runway show. Alongside these Tyrex motocross boots were models wading through water against the backdrop of LED graphics on the ceiling that mimicked rain, fire and thunder, and also on their feet were these Excavator Rainboots.
The fashion statement is something we’re going to have to get used to, as numerous high-end fashion brands have started making the wellington boot a thing. For Balenciaga’s offering, you’ll find a black rubber boot that’s oversized in shape, complete with a rounded toe, rounded heel, and a duck bill-like vamp.
Naturally, Balenciaga adds branding on the most prominent parts of the boot. “Balenciaga Rainboot” alongside the article number appears in white-stamped block capitals on the calf, while its name “Excavator” appears debossed into the rubber on the lateral side’s mid-section.
The bottom is given a grooved outsole that’s once more branded with the house’s moniker. Pre-orders for Balenciaga’s Excavator Rainboots are now open on Balenciaga’s website, costing $850 USD a pair. Shipping is expected to commence on November 9, and sizes are selling out fast.
