Melting Sadness' adidas Originals Superstar and Pro Model Collaboration Officially Surfaces
Three Superstars and one Pro Model play on a dog, duck, bee, and giraffe.

Chinese artist Zhang Quan and his brand Melting Sadness have had pairs of its adidas Originals collaboration floating around the Internet for months, and now the pairs have officially surfaced — along with a release date and pricing — on adidas Originals’ regional Japanese and Chinese websites.
The soon-dropping pairs aren’t the fluffy blue bunny Superstars, but are still equally crazy. There are three Superstars — one of which is an 80s TR Classic with a ridged sole served in “Green/Yellow/White/Black” — and one standalone giraffe-themed Pro Model.
Melting Sadness’ first Superstar is served in “Linen Brown/Energy Orange/Pure Orange/Black,” and switches up the original Shell Toe sneaker quite a lot. For example, the laces are hidden underneath a bright orange splodge on the tongue that’s attached via velcro stripes on the eyestay placket, and on the rear-quarter, there’s an embroidered dog dressed as a hotdog. Furry lining, retro Superstar branding, and a sunset-like sole unit round out this pair.
Joining this is the Superstar in “Yellow/Core Black/Super Orange.” This pair offers everything you’d expect to find in the playful world of a bumblebee — from a flower patch on the tongue to a flower print that overlaps from the tongue and onto the Shell Toe. A black and yellow colorway nods to the bee once more, as does the bee embroidery on the heel. Finally, a fuzzy heel tab and a small rubber spike at the rear complete this buzzy look.
Melting Sadness switches things up with its Superstar 80s TR Classic, which serves us all of the cuteness of a baby duckling. Its upper comprises tones of green, yellow, and blue, adding wing details on the smooth suede base. A baby duck is embroidered on the heel, while large yellow stripes run over the shoe from the lateral to the medial side.
Last comes the Pro Model, which nods to giraffes. It’s offered in a mixture of brown and orange tones and features spots all over its upper, complete with an embroidered giraffe on the heel, a fuzzy and oversized giraffe-resembling patch on the tongue, a furry tongue, and large Three Stripes that melt onto the sole unit.
For now, the Melting Sadness x adidas Originals collaboration can be seen above, or on adidas’ Japanese and Chinese websites. The dog and duck Superstars are available in China now through the adidas app for ¥1199 CNY (approx. $180 USD), while the bee Superstar and giraffe Pro Model are dropping in Japan on November 7 for ¥16,500 JPY apiece (approx. $160 USD). Stay tuned for more information regarding a wider global release as news unfolds.
