Open Mike Eagle has shared the opening song to his upcoming album Anime, Trauma and Divorce set to release this Friday, October 16 via his very own label AutoReverse Records. “Death Parade” was released alongside an animated visual directed by Ben Clarkson. The track serves as a reminder that Open Mike Eagle is a master storyteller who consistently weaves complex themes packaged alongside pop-culture references, humor and bars for days.

“This song is about the cycle of trauma. The personal trauma thats been a throughline in my life and how traumatized people tend to inflict more trauma on themselves and others,” Open Mike said in a recent press release about his new song. “Death Parade” follows OME’s recent “Bucciarati” music video featuring Kari Faux and “I’m A JoeStar (Black Power Fantasy”.

According to the rapper’s website, he describes Anime, Trauma and Divorce as such: “This is the sound of a broken man sifting through the pieces while trying to rebuild, the struggle to self-critique while practicing self-care. Do you disassociate by envisioning yourself as the lead in your favorite anime, or do you reflect on your headass behavior? Tattoos and beer or push-ups and smoothies?”

To celebrate his upcoming release, Open Mike Eagle will be performing the project in its entirety via a livestream on October 16 at 9PM ET in what’s described as a hybrid solo shoow, album release party and concert directed by collaborator Baron Vaughn.
