Marvel Turned Down Matthew McConaughey for the Role of Hulk
“No thank you.”
Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey has revealed that he was keen on playing Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel turned him down for the role.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Texan actor talked about his admiration for Lou Ferrigno and the Hulk television series back in the ’70s, recounting how he approached Marvel following Edward Norton‘s departure from the character following its only solo movie so far, The Incredible Hulk. “Wanted it,” McConaughey said, before explaining that Marvel simply rejected him with a “No thank you.” The role ultimately landed on Mark Ruffalo, who has portrayed Bruce Banner ever since the original The Avengers from 2012, although voice acting for the Hulk parts remained with Ferrigno until Thor: Ragnarok, where Ruffalo finally took over.
