Last October, KAWS launched his first solo exhibition in the Middle East at Doha’s Fire Station Museum. Titled “HE EATS ALONE,” the sprawling presentation featured over 40 significant pieces spanning abstract-meets-figurative paintings, large-scale Companion sculptures, and the Brooklyn artist’s slew of commercial collaborations spanning sneakers, skateboards and other related ephemera.

To commemorate the landmark show, Silvana and Qatar Museums recently published an expansive, clothbound catalog detailing all of the works presented in the exhibition that concluded in January 25 this year. Moreover, the tome chronicles the artist’s prolific career which took off in the 1990s with his iconic cartoon-inspired designs having graced fashion collections, vinyl figurines, and skateboards as well as canvases which sold for millions of dollars.

Included in the book is an essay by the authoritative art historian and curator, Germano Celant. “KAWS’s figures are inflected in the world through a system of global communication and distribution. They are delicate, original forms that joyously graft onto one another in every earthly context. They bear witness to the cosmopolitan spirit of an art ‘without place,’ that is able to convey an imaginary universe always aware of having to negotiate its presence with the already existing market of signs,” Celant writes.

The KAWS: HE EATS ALONE catalog is available to purchase on Artbook’s website for $65 USD and select stockists worldwide.

Elsewhere in art, AllRightsReserved just launched a new BLOCKHEAD LAMP edition by Eddie Martinez.
