Jhené Aiko Performs Stunning Eight-Song Medley for NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Performing cuts from ‘Sailing Souls,’ ‘Souled Out’ and ‘Chilombo.’
Jhené Aiko graced the NPR Tiny Desk (Home) Concert stage with a gentle eight-song medley.
The 18-minute performance kicked off with a brief sound bath, followed by a piano-based and almost jazzy rendition of “Lotus (Intro).” Aiko continues to deliver both old and new tracks, including Sailing Souls cuts “Stranger” and “Do Better Blues,” Souled Out numbers “To Love & Die,” “W.A.Y.S.” and “Eternal Summer” and Chilombo‘s “Born Tired” and “Summer 2020.”
Only backed by musicians on the piano, bass, harp and percussion, this stripped down performance truly focuses on Aiko’s undeniably gorgeous vocals and her ability to create an R&B sound that’s totally her own. Add this to her vulnerably honest and relatable lyricism, and you’ve got an artist that’s difficult to copy or recreate elsewhere.
