Daniel Arsham's “Moonraker” Series Opened Today at Paris' Musée Guimet

For a new contemporary carte blanche, Musée Guimet has invited artist Daniel Arsham to present his latest series of emblematic sculptures in an exhibition entitled “Moonraker”.

Tackling his favourite subject — archaeology of the future — Arsham has been given unprecedented access to the moulds from the Grand Palais. Comprising a selection of works from the vast collection of moulds from the RMN-Grand Palais cast workshop, Arsham has relied on the expertise of the mould-makers to assist him in his execution.

“The exhibition includes a number of cast works from the Museum’s collection as well as this blue garden inspired by my Japanese Wife and the time I spent with her in Kyoto,” said Arsham in a recent Instagram post. “The tree which contains crystal formations as well as the lantern were both hand-sculpted based on a tree and lantern that I first saw there almost 10 years ago”.

Set to be displayed amidst the museum’s permanent collections, the exhibition will be compiled by the installation of a Japanese Zen garden in the rotunda on the museum’s fourth floor. “Moonraker” will be exhibiting from 21 October 2020 through to 25 January 2021.
