Rejjie Snow Premieres New "Mirrors" Music Video Featuring Snoh Aalegra and Cam O'Bi
“The world of Willy Wonka… but on psychedelics.”
Dublin, Ireland’s own Rejjie Snow returns to premiere his new “Mirrors” music video with HYPEBEAST. It’s been over two years since the singular rapper’s Dear Annie garnered critical-acclaim and his most recent output continues that surreal, dream-like vibe thanks to a new visual courtesy of his collaboration with Machine Operated.
After his MF DOOM featuring “Cookie Chips” dropped earlier this summer, Rejjie revealed what he’s been working on during the ongoing coronavirus quarantines. “I was quarantined with my girlfriend and family in my hometown of Dublin, Ireland. I returned to London a few weeks ago where I was alone for a little while and spent some time making music with a friend and shooting some videos,” Rejjie told HYPEBEAST. “I’ve been focused on photo stuff at the moment doing a lot of research and experimenting with old cameras I was given. The lockdown helped kick shift this love back into gear. I also set up my brand Flee Chain and did a pop up at Paris Fashion Week. I’ve been reading a lot and spending time inside. I approach things a little more sensitively now.”
As for having MF DOOM connect for his earlier single, Rejjie detailed, “There’s no words for the opportunity to have him on my track. He’s the greatest hip-hop artist who’s ever lived in my opinion, utter genius. I got the label to pay that man and he blessed me.”
The “Mirrors” video follows Rejjie through a diverse set of moving train compartments each with its own vivid world spanning from oversized fauna to a wintery mountainous terrain with masked creatures. There’s even a functioning aquarium to swim through in another section. While collaborators Snoh Aalegra and Cam O’bi don’t appear, their vocals resonate throughout. “I worked on this idea with my buddies Josh and Nathan and before we knew it, we all had something solid and concise enough to deliver visually. In short the aim was to distort your reality. [The video] was the world of Willy Wonka for me but on psychedelics.”
After “Cookie Chips” and “Mirrors,” Snow is currently building momentum to his forthcoming follow-up to Dear Annie. “I’ve grown a lot so much so that I’ve grown out of a lot of stuff. Seeing this music thing and the world for what it really is definitely lended itself into making the album that is coming out,” he said. “The next record is enjoyable from start to finish and I appreciate everyone for keeping me in their thoughts as I release this momentarily.” Watch his new “Mirrors” video above and stream the single below.
