Beastie Boys' Mike D to Sell His Mother's $30 Million USD Art Collection
Featuring contemporary works and Old Masters.

Beastie Boys member Mike D has announced that his mother’s art collection is to be sold at auction at Sotheby’s early next year. The collection was accumulated by Hester Diamond, an interior designer, and her art dealer husband Harold. It is valued at around $30 million USD, and features a range of important contemporary pieces as well as a number of Old Masters accumulated by Hester following her husband’s death in 1982.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Mike D explained his parents’ connection to the art world, “My mom and dad were completely integrated into the New York City contemporary art world before I was born. Quite a number of the Rothkos that are sold at Sotheby’s today at some point went through my parents.”
Mike D also discussed the range of items and artworks that will be for sale, adding “the juxtaposition of styles of furniture and paintings and sculpture is honestly, very striking. It really is something that’s rare in our world, that we have people like my mom, who are so comfortable in their own point of view.”
Titled “Fearless: The Collection of Hester Diamond,” the auction will take place online and at Sotheby’s New York in January 2021.
