Khalid Takes a Late Night Drive With His Crush in New "Eleven" Single
Released with a lyric video paying tribute to ’80s sports cars.
Khalid returns with his latest record, “Eleven,” featuring an accompanying lyric video that’s a blurry black and white homage to ’80s sports cars with fonts to match. Khalid directs his focus at his most recent love, wondering if he’s the only one she’s seeing as they speed through the night just before morning’s early hours.
“Late at night, eleven, we’re cruisin’/ Lately, I’ve been watchin’ your movements/ If I’m the only one that you’re choosin’/ Am I your favorite drug you’ve been usin’?” The smooth electric guitar cuts through the underlying paranoia while Khalid transitions between highlighting his car’s most recent upgrades and setting the scene for who’s in the passengers seat. The new single follows the GRAMMY Nominated singer’s “Up All Night” offering first previewed during his Free Spirit World Tour.
“I love synths, they bring the perfect sense of nostalgia from the ‘80s and ‘90s, which I classify as the some of the best times to be alive musically, kind of the peak of music individuality,” Khalid told HYPEBEAST about his sonic influences back in November. “From melodies to expressing oneself, I feel like the ‘80s just had the best music about living. The most influential songs for me definitely stem from the ‘80s, and the ‘90s was similar, it was just so cool. Even today I feel like there are so many artists trying to tap back into that sound or that influence that the ‘90s brought.”
