GmbH FW20 Delivers Precise Post-Rave Silhouettes
The Berlin brand also showcased some new ASICS footwear.
GmbH‘s Fall/Winter 2020 range elevates the Berlin brand’s signature codes, bringing its post-rave styling to a head by way of precise silhouettes. Clever use of color and dynamic layering updates the looks for a post-rave future, utilizing thoughtful silhouettes that allowed for greater volume without ever entirely obscuring the body’s shape.
Nipped waists lent a human touch to the immense faux fur coats and shearling jackets, highlighting the waist in similar ways to the sculptural knitwear and strong-shouldered dresses. Aside from a pair of scientific trench-like coats, the garments all sported contoured shapes, whether they be trim chain link-patterned shirts or paneled mac coats, made to look more imposing by towering shoulders and small lapels.
More collaborative ASICS sneakers surfaced during the show, ranging from slick GEL-Quantum-style sneakers to laceless loafer sneakers. The athletic attitude played well with GmbH’s signature PVC pants and tiny sunglasses, a natural counterpoint to the lavish patterns that manifested later in the range. These included a vest laden with imagery of the stars and moon, worn atop a graceful, intricate gold print emblazoned atop a layered shirt.
Elsewhere at Paris Fashion Week, we saw Fall/Winter 2020 runways from Dior, Vetements and Ann Demeulemeester.
