Nike Basketball Unveils 2020 Black History Month Player Editions
Special makeups for LeBron, Kyrie, Giannis, KD and PG.
With Black History Month right around the corner, Nike Basketball has unveiled BHM-themed PEs for its 5 signature athletes: LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Paul George. Drawing from early ’90s street style and African textiles, all 5 silhouettes interpret the collection’s ethos in a unique fashion, and each serves as an introduction to Nike and Jordan Brand‘s impending slate of BHM releases.
James’s LeBron 17 features a Battleknit upper dressed in a New York Yankees-esque navy, accented by multi-color detailing and featuring BHM embroidery on the tongue. Irving’s Kyrie 6 combines an earthy light tan quarter with blue, orange, red and yellow embellishments. Antetokounmpo’s Zoom Freak 1 spars with Irving’s design for the most vibrant of the bunch, melding a navy and light teal upper with a striking multi-color flipped Swoosh on its midsole.
Durant’s KD 12 takes on a “Flight Jacket”-themed style olive, yellow and blaze orange palette. Finally, George’s PG 4 opts for a mix of retro pastels that calls to mind the colors from vintage Nike ACG product. Although each pair is notably different, the common thread between all 5 is provided by unanimously used gum outsoles.
None of the shoes in this quintet will release, as each is a PE made exclusively for its respective player. However, you will be able to catch them on NBA courts starting January 20, so be sure to look for the aforementioned BHM collection following closely thereafter.
Elsewhere in the world of the Swoosh, Nike Running recently released two new colorways of the React Infinity Run.
