KINGMCK Hones in on TR-909 Drum Machine for '9/09' EP
The South Korean artist shows his love for techno & acid house.
South Korean DJ-meets-producer KINGMCK has made a reputation as one of the country’s most forward thinking performers, developing a line of parties that has seen the catapulting of various cultural juggernauts. In many senses, KINGMCK’s unforgettable persona behind the decks is hard to describe outside of being boundary-less, infusing a range of sounds from techno to house to hip-hop and more. After releasing a slew of singles and remixes over the years, he has now released his first full EP, entitled 9/09.
Honing in on his love for techno and acid house, the project sees KINGMCK utilizing the renowned Roland TR-909 drum machine — the successor to the TR-808 (the bedrock to the emergence of electronic and hip-hop genres) — crafting his sound around hard-hitting drums, basses, and otherworldly side-chained melodies. The various 909 cymbals and hi-hats offer up hawkishly fervent percussion, which further ride alongside heavily-tuned analog synths and pounding basslines.
