'GRETEL & HANSEL' Chilling New Trailer Is a Harrowing Journey Into the Woods
“Follow the crumbs.”
One of the best-known Brothers Grimm fairytales Hansel and Gretel has been put into production for a dark and twisted reimagination. As its title hints, GRETEL & HANSEL is a harrowing new adaptation by visionary director Oz Perkins that might make you rethink the classic story you may have been told at childhood, and it’s coming out early next year.
Orion Pictures unveiled the trailer for the upcoming flick, which stars Sophia Lillis, from IT, as Gretel and Sam Leakey, a newcomer, as Hansel. The movie takes place in a distant countryside, in the dark creepy woods where the cannibalistic witch Holda resides. Teasing some chilling cuts from the film, the trailer shows the two children’s journey into Holda’s house as she prepares her oven for some pretty terrifying things. Burning fires, red smoke and other flashes of scary imagery are interspersed throughout the trailer, offering a glimpse of Perkins’ sinister take on the classic fairytale.
