Sunspel Joins Lemaire for Contemporary FW19 Capsule Collection
Modern aesthetics meet 150-year-old quality fabrics.
Sunspel and Lemaire team up once again for a Fall/Winter 2019 capsule collection. Following the brands’ Spring/Summer 2019 capsule of simple and beautifully made pieces, the second collaboration combines both the brands’ interest in quality fabrics, mixed with Sunspel’s innovation and Lemaire’s contemporary aesthetic.
Since the brand was started in 1860, Sunspel has been at the forefront of exceptional quality fabrics. Christophe Lemaire, former Artistic Director at Hermès, used Sunspel’s history as an inspiration to co-create a collection of ribbed tops, jackets and pants. Lemaire reimagined Sunspel’s classic pajama top, turning it into a shirt jacket silhouette with detailing on the revere collar and double pocket. Sunspel’s matching pajama bottoms are also redone in Lemaire style with a contemporary wide-fit trouser look and welt pockets. They come in a black colorway with bold red detailing as well as a graphic green marble print that was inspired by vintage Sunspel journal ledgers.
Sunspel and Lemaire also developed a cotton rib fabric in black, pink and green for its short sleeves and turtlenecks, making layering easy in the fall and winter months. Nicholas Brooke, CEO of Sunspel stated, “It is a testament to the innovative attitude of our founder that fabrics developed over 100 years ago can be reworked today in high fashion styles. It is also great when fashion designers turn to companies like ours, where the focus has always been on quality and fabric development.” Sunspel still has its own factory near Nottingham, England, crafting clothing from some of the world’s finest quality cotton.
The Fall/Winter 2019 collection will be available starting August 15 in Sunspel stores and on Sunspel’s website. Prices range from $205 to $460 USD.
