Earlier this week, Top Dawg singer-songwriter SiR revealed plans for his next full-length studio album, Chasing Summer, and announced a new single with Kendrick Lamar, “Hair Down.” Now, as promised, the Inglewood-raised artist is serving up the aforementioned collaboration, giving listeners their first taste and preview of Chasing Summer.
Notably, SiR and Kendrick Lamar’s “Hair Down” record comes to us courtesy of its official music video, which was put together by director Jack Begert and Psycho Films. “Hair Down” also features production cooked up by the trio of Michael Ozowuru, Mike Hector and Jeff Kleinman.
SiR spoke to Zane Lowe earlier today, opening up about working with Kendrick Lamar on “Hair Down” and the track’s origins and themes.
“He [Kendrick Lamar ] did exactly what he’s supposed to do. The song is about being confident in yourself, and he’s living his life and he definitely let it be known in that verse. I’m a huge fan, I don’t even got to really say it, you know what I mean? You should’ve seen me in a session when he was recording his verse, I’m sitting there like a kid. I was just trying to soak it all in, man. It’s hard to really describe these feelings, man. Especially for someone that loves music as much as I do, to be in these rooms. It’s incredible … It’s a blessing and it’s definitely a lot to take in, but at the end of the day I think we got it done man, and I can’t wait to share more music and keep going.”
You can watch SiR and Lamar’s new music video for “Hair Down” above. SiR’s Chasing Summer is scheduled to release on August 30 via Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA.
Back in August of 2018, SiR teamed up with Masego for another collaborative single, “Old Age.”
