Childish Gambino Covers Garth Brooks' "Lost in You" in 'Like A Version'
The country love ballad recorded by his alter-ego Chris Gaines gets a soulful twist.
Childish Gambino has covered the 1999 country track “Lost in You” by Garth Brooks, in the latest installment of Triple J‘s Like A Version.
The original country song was a love ballad that was produced under Garth Brooks’ rock alter-ego Chris Gaines for the one-off 1999 project The Life of Chris Gaines. This is the second time Childish Gambino has revived a classic song in his own unique way for Triple J, last time taking on the ‘98 R&B slow jam “So Into You” by Tamia.
For “Lost in You,” Gambino takes it to church with high-pitched vocals, a choir and an electric keyboard playing organ-like sounds. Sitting down in a studio, Gambino and his choir strip it back and put prominence on the country-rock ballad’s love song lyrics. Watch the live session of Like A Version above where you can hear Childish Gambino’s take on “Lost in You.”
In other news, Kanye West’s Sunday Service has given a Nirvana classic the gospel treatment.
