Canon's Latest G7 X III Camera Shoots Vertical Footage for Instagram Stories
Launching alongside the G5 X II.

Canon has unveiled the G7 X III, a camera built for vloggers and Instagrammers thanks to its un-cropped, vertical shooting mode and 180° swiveling screen.
The G7 X III features a built-in gyro which enables the camera to capture content vertically. This function is paired to a lens which is capable of shooting 4K video at 30 fps, as well as 120 fps slow-motion footage in 1080p. The G7 also comes equipped with WiFi connectivity, meaning you can stream straight to YouTube. In terms of Instagram Stories content, the G7 X III logs that the footage was shot vertically in the clip’s metadata so you can upload it at a later date.
Rounding off the G7 X III’s specs is a 4.2x optical lens, built-in optical image stabilization, a three-inch tilting touch screen and a microphone. Canon also debuted the G5 X II. It packs the same 20-megapixel lens as seen in the cheaper G7 X III, but is poised more towards photographers thanks to a 24-120mm equivalent f/1.8-2.8 zoom lens and a pop-up OLED electronic viewfinder.
Both of Canon’s Powershot-series successors will be available as of next month. The G7 X III will be priced at $749 USD and the G5 X II will be priced at $899 USD.
