First Teaser Trailer for 'Doctor Sleep' Is a Throwback to 'The Shining'
Danny Torrance is all grown up.
The first teaser trailer for Stephen King‘s Doctor Sleep has arrived and it pays clear homage to its predecessor, The Shining.
Based on King’s novel of the same name, the story acts as an official sequel to The Shining and stars Ewan McGregor playing a grown-up Danny Torrance who has to deal with a whole new set of supernatural problems, all while still grappling with his traumatic childhood spent in the haunted Overlook Hotel. He then finds himself using his gift to help a child in her battle between good and evil.
The official synopsis reads:
“On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless – mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the “steam” that children with the “shining” produce when they are slowly tortured to death. Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant “shining” power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.” Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul…”
Along with McGregor, the film also stars Rebecca Ferguson who plays Rose the Hat, the evil leader of the True Knot, Bruce Greenwood, and Zahn McClarnon. Kyliegh Curran plays the young girl, Abra Stone. Check out the trailer above.
Doctor Sleep is directed by Mike Flanagan, who is known for his work on Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, and lands in theaters November 8.
Another Stephen King adaptation will be hitting the big screen later this year. Check out the trailer for IT: Chapter 2 which features a grown up Losers Club.
